Summer Reading Challenges and Activities for Children, Teens, and Adults!

Treasure Chest Reading Program

Ages: 3-5

June 3-August 31

 

Children will read to earn prizes! Reading logs are available at any JRVLS location including the Bookmobile! New reading logs will be available each month June - August. Turn the completed reading logs in to the library by the end of each month to claim the monthly PRIZE, and to be entered into the GRAND PRIZE DRAWING! If you turn in all three reading logs you will get three entries in the grand prize drawing! 

 

Younger children may have someone read to them to earn their prizes. 

 

Grand Prize: Deluxe LEGO Duplo Set

The grand prize drawing will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd. We will contact the winners of the drawings by phone.

Teen Summer Reading

Ages: 13-18

Level Up! is the Teen Summer Reading Program at James River Valley Library.

 

June 3 - August 31

 

Every participant will win a prize for each level they complete, with a final prize for reaching Level Five. Those who reach Level Five will also be entered into a drawing for a Grand Prize!

 

Please register in person at Alfred Dickey Library at the main desk in the adult library.

Adult Summer Reading Challenge

Ages: 18 & up

Why should kids have all the fun? It’s summer reading time for the adults too! 

The James River Library System invites all adults (18+) to participate in the Adult Summer reading program.

 

The adult summer reading program begins June 3rd.

 

How to participate:

Add a little mystery and fun to your reading list! Grab a mystery scratch off card in June, July, and August to get five secret book reading suggestions. After reading your five books for the month, hand in your card to pick a fun prize from our basket and be entered to win one of three grand prizes. Final date to turn in your mystery scratch off cards is August 31, 2024 and grand prize drawings will be held September 3rd, 2024.

 

Pick up your mystery scratch off cards at either library location and on the bookmobile.
